ive heard this term before. what exactly is pulling white lines? is it when you tie your string tight enough to where no dye gets to that part of the fabric? or is it something else?

After a gazillion of us have read your post here, i'd say that "pulling white lines" is exactly what you thought - pulling the string really tight to resist the dye. Using artificial sinew (round and round) would probably produce the white line better than string.
