I took pride in my new front loading high efficiency washer until I started dying.  Now, every time I see the discolored bubbles spinning around my shirts I get nervous.  Most of the time I get good results with the occasional spotting on yellows and oranges.
Does anyone else use the HE washer?  Any tips?  Should I just break down and put an old washer on the deck under a tarp?

I have one of those massive capacity agitator-less top loaders.  It senses the amount of laundry, and sets the proper amount of water.  The thing is friggin' awesome for laundry in general, but lousy for rinsing tie dyes out.

So I just rinse the dye out as best I can in the sink, then put the items in a large tub of water with a bit of synthrapol until I'm ready to toss a few (5 or 6?) into the washer.

If I were doing this as a business rather than a hobby, I'd probably buy a cheapie manually operated mechanical button style top loader.

That is pretty much what I have done.  Yeah, 5 or 6 max.  Going to Craig's List for a washer now...
