I am considering changing this site to use a Content Management System called Joomla. This would allow one log-in for all services including a Forum, Gallery, Blogs, Want Ads, Event Calendars, and even a store.

I guess there are some less than perfect ways to integrate pHpBB (Our forum software). Another alternative would be to port our postings over to the better integrated Simple Board.

How important is it that we have an integrated log-in?

What other components do you think would be useful in making a Tie-dye portal?

Feedback welcome!

It would make it much simpler, especially with the tools that relate directly back to the forum i.e. calender, gallery etc. Don't think it would be a make or break deal though wink

I think it's really neat to have tools available to handle the evolution of a system.  And if you have plans for expanding to include all those features, and you're up for the conversion, then it's probably better to do it sooner than later.  That way you get all the heavy techhie work behind you  so you can focus on your core business.  However, other than having the option of a store available, my thinking is the other things are 'nice to have', but not that vital to me.  The communication opportunities here are the main attraction for me... I have a blog, (2 actually), and my website is my main gallery.  However, I will bow to the prevailing preferences here!

I don't have an opinion on all the other stuff, blogs, want ads, etc.  I would like to say, though, that I really like the layout and functionality of this forum software. Compared to others I have seen it is very logical and easy to navigate.

take it easy

I have to agree on that. This software pHpBB is one of the best--and it's free to boot. vBulletin is also very good, however, it is not free.

I have set up Simple board, but not enough to get a real feel of it yet. If It doesn't function similarly, I'll probably stick with what we got and just bridge a gallery to it. Some forum software is dreadful.

Joomla would give a nice front end and consistency of look and feel along with one username and password to get in on it all, but if the forum doesn't cut it, I'll just make up a page in Dreamweaver. A new entry page is long overdo!
