OMG, you would not believe the amount of crackling that my design has. It's in the wash soaking out but once it dries I have to share a pic. I can't believe it. It looks as if I used beeswax combined with the other wax (forgot the name) I will probably not be able to duplicate this

Can't wait to see it! And I'll bet you will get good crackles with future projects... at least that is my experience. I've been doing autumn leaves for about 2 years now, and while each has its own look, the general result is the same. BTW, the other wax traditionally used is parafin, combined with beeswax if I remember correctly.

Check this out, I can't believe it. Is this supposed to happen with soy? Everywhere I have read opposite. Yes, that is the name of the wax, couldn't remember for the life of me. So Judy, you always get this effect?

Absoloutely gorgeous! And yes, I get that effect every time. Two things I have learned about soy wax that I will pass on: 1) since it melts at a lower temperature, make sure it doesn't get too hot, or it will run and not stay in the area you apply it in. 2) I start painting the wax inside my guidelines, and let it migrate toward the edge at first, then I may go back in and add more if it doesn't go all the way to the edge. Once my wax has melted, I turn my temperature down to 'warm' and leave it there for the rest of my waxing session. I can't wait to see more of your efforts! Judy

Judy, I hand painted the inside of the4 design but the colors didn't take vibrant at all. Very subtle. Do you have to scrub the garment vigorously to get the soy out?

Hi, Mishoga. Did you pre-soda soak the garment before applying the dyes? It almost sounds like you didn't get enough dye saturation in the hand painted area. You might want to try waxing a line around the design, then hand paint, then wax over the design once the dye is dry. And no, I don't scrub the wax out. I run it through my washer with hot water, or if just one garment, I would hand launder with hot water and synthrapol, then maybe soak in hot water for a few moments to dissolve any remaining wax.

I didn't pre-soak. I mixed soda ash in with the dye solution to paint on. Here is the finished piece but I had to handpaint twice "Peace sign" (still needs to be embroidered)
I have to paint the Om again too

One last question: did you hand paint before you applied the wax or did you wax, dye the background, wash, then hand paint? I usually apply my lighter colors first, then draw the design and wax, then over dye the background. May be if you did the hand painting after you might have had a slight residue of wax left on the garment which resisted the hand painted dye... at any rate, your pictures show a beautiful design!

Hmmmm, I've never pre painted then dyed the background. I'm going to try it that way. you know how we all get stuck in our ways. I think I'll try that today. Thanks Judy, you're the best Smoochies By the way, here's the set ready to go to the yoga studio
