How would I mix up a nice deep maroon?  Maybe similar to Dharma's PR8A : PAGODA RED

I used burgundy and fuschia to make a decent brick red once upon a time.

Well I have to admit a bit of confusion.  I see pagoda red as more of a pumpkin orange.  Are you trying to achieve a pumpkin orange or maroon which I'd view as more of a brown red.

I'm looking for a brown/red - I've never used pagoda red from Dharma, and was just going by their little online color swatches.  It looked brown/red on my screen, so I'm glad you told me it's orangey!

I don't have burgundy - what do you think about doing scarlet red with some chocolate brown mixed in??

Might be worth a try. Do you have some old tees or something you can experiment on?

You might need to add a bit of navy blue, too. Try mixing similar colors in Olli Niemitalo's Dye Mixer Applet.

Just wanted to say that the pagoda red is definetly an orangy color.  I just went through a pot of it today.  Not a very red red.

When I'm mixing colors for the first time, I check out the applet that Paula mentioned, and then I go to town on some scrap fabric.

For maroon, you can certainly try mixing brown and red.

I find that the chocolate brown I have is already fairly red. Sometimes, if I want to make a red more brown, I'll add green to it.

There are countless combinations, I'm sure, that can get you to a color like that. You just have to experiment and see what works.

Thanks so much everyone!  I ended up mixing 2 parts scarlet red to 1 part chocolate brown and I really like the color.  I'll definitely be bookmarking that applet!  Thanks again Smiley
