For the first go-round I used the blue and green in squirt bottles within the tied-off globe area to make continents, but the green wasn't dark enough to contrast with the blue, soooo......
I tried using a brush to paint on some dye already mixed with soda ash on damp fabric. Turned out looking pretty much the same as it had befor eI painted it on, soooo.....
....what I ended up doing was putting some deeper green and soda ash into a small sprayer and spraying it right onto the skirt where I wanted the landforms and batching and washing out as usual. BOY was I relieved when it came out that way!
I debated whether to do it with damp or dry fabric, but I elected to use dry fabric so as the dye spread it would end with more demarcation to get the contrast the buyer wanted. Up close on a T-shirt I'm not sure I would have have cared for that effect but on a loosely hanging skirt which would be seen from more of a distance, it seemed to make more sense, so I bit the bullet and gave it a go.
Have I mentioned how much fun it is making wearable usable art?
