Yeah, I think a trip to the craft store is in line. I'm going to see if the glue is an option. I was toying with the idea of fusible tape, but that stuff is impossible to remove if I make a mistake... not to mention it will affect the hand of the fabric. It has also been suggested to me to try using tissue paper, but I am a bit skeptical. Hand basting is an option, but the seams are long, and I would hate to spend that much time sewing. I enjoy dyeing and designing the shape of the garment, but the actual sewing is NOT my favorite part.

Tomorrow is my day off from work. Let's see how much of this project I can get done. Wish me luck!

Sometimes when making a special garment, you have to slow yourself down and put in the time. If the garment is for yourself and not a production piece for sale, the extra attention to your art is worth it. Basting is really quite fast; however, I have glue basted difficult fabrics, ironed dry, and kept on sewing.

I'm not sure if I'll sell it or end up wearing it myself. I will sell just about anything for the right price, but for all the work I've put into this, I'd want at least $300 for it... lol. Maybe after I've done a few, I'd have a better "production" method. If I could find someone to buy it for that price, I'd definately sell it, but somehow I think it is out of the price range of most folks.

Now... let's see I can figure out how to post a picture.

Here's the front:

Here's the back:

The front of the silk lining (if you can call it that. My intent was for the jacket to be reversible):

Anyway, it's still a work in progress. So far the hand basting is a lot better than I thought it would be. It will probably take me forever to finish it, but at least now you can see what I've been talking about.

I LOVE IT!!!  grin

I especially love the way the fabric is dyed. How did dye the velvet to make it look almost like a watercolor?

GREAT JOB!

That's a beautiful dye job, Fiberartist!
Depending on the workmanship of the finished jacket, it would be worth a lot more than 300 dollars.
Excellent beginning! And thank you so much for sharing this with us.

Thanks! That is a boost to my confidence. It makes me want to quit my job so I can dye stuff full time... and eventually learn better sewing skills. Anyway, the hand basting is working much better for me.
