I ordered presist from prochem but now I've  read that it is water soluable- I knew that I guess, rolleyes  so how do you use it? Should I soak in Soda Ash then line dry? PBurch describes this in her 'drop dying' technique for mandelas. Do you have any photos of your results and what is possible? I also have a discharge product I havent tried yet (too busy gearing up for tourists) that is used by painting on and then ironing until the desired effect is achieved...Anyone used these? Tongue

I have used Presist before when I dabbled in painting, wh/ I might try again but who knows! Yeah, definately not useful for immersion methods. But for direct application, say with a brush or even precise bottle application you could always activate the dye rather than soakig your item.

I might als suggest thickening your dye to give yourself more control over its flow.

For direct application with tie-dyeing I use 1/2 tsp sodium alginate per cup of chem water. For application with a paint brush you might want it a little thicker.

Thanks Kathy...I do make up a separate bit of say 'red dye for hearts' at 1/2 tsp alginate per cup of chem water but I get alot of bleeding sometimes because either I use too much dye or the shirt was too wet from the soak...I have tried to line dry the soaked shirts but the bleeding was just slower...I'm going to try more alignate and maybe activation! I don't tend to use all the dye I make--it's never happened--so I don't want to waste. I usually have a really limited time to dye because of my big, young  family. How about not activating the 3 cup jar I make of each colour but just what is in the squirt bottle , about 8oz I think, how much soda to activate that? Is the shirt dry? I ordered 'The Art...' DVD but it hasn't come yet.....Thanks Smiley
